Over the holidays, I had invested the time and money to upgrade some gear. I made the jump to off camera flash. I picked up the Pocket Wizard Mini TT1 and the TT5 Flex, and so far I have found them to be incredible. I will do some range testing soon, but I have no doubts that the triggers will be a very worthwhile investment. The wireless triggers have enabled me to get my strobe off camera and create some excitement and polish to my portraits. I also picked up a dyed muslin background, and I have completed a portrait session with the new gear. This will allow me to create high quality formal portraits and headshots either on location or here in my home studio. Its pretty exciting since the harsh Edmonton weather always seems to cut in to shooting time. Its nice to be able to fall back to a warm location and create some magic.

Controlling the Skies.

As a photographer, my art and skill lies in controlling and harnessing light to express mood and substance.

I had the honor to work with a number of women of whom are very familiar with control.

Late October, I was approached by Kendra Kincade, a client of mine, to donate my time and services to be the principal photographer for her concept calendar. Kendra is one of the select few that hopes to raise awareness and funds for the Royal Alexandra Hospital’s Orthopedic Center.

From August 8 to 19, 2011 a group of doctors, professionals and business leaders who support the Royal Alexandra Hospital will embark on the journey of a lifetime, the ascension of Mount Kilimanjaro — the rooftop of Africa Kincade is part of the climbing team, and has set her own goal of $5000 prior to her ascension.

Kendra is an Air Traffic Controller, and works with a number of very strong and capable controllers out of the Edmonton International Airport. She felt she could raise funds with the creation of a concept calendar that featured some of her colleagues.

I was honored to be a part of this effort, as I know the funds are desperately needed.

The calendar will be sold for $10.00 each and all proceeds will directly benefit the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation. Kendra has been amazing in her efforts in gathering people to collaborate, participate, sponsor and contribute. Clearly she is cut of for such incredible organization and multi-tasking.
